A letter from Haiti, 30 days before the earthquake

This is the first letter I received from the child I sponsor in Haiti. I got this letter the day prior to the earthquake. But, I was so busy, I did not open my mail until yesterday, after the earthquake had hit. I didn't even know it was a letter from the 5 year old child I sponsor (I have blurred names and places to protect the family I sponsor). I responded to the letter today via an online letter writing feature of the organization I sponsor through. I also mailed a handwritten letter with pictures. I wrote that we are in constant prayer for her and her family and friends in Haiti. I also added myself to the waiting list of sponsors who want to travel to Haiti to meet personally with their sponsor child and family. My child's parents are teachers. They earn an average of $31.00 per month. We must, as a global citizenry, aid and assist Haiti at all cost. It is not impressive to me that in a world so advanced as to be soon able to offer commercial space flight to the general public, we have failed entire nation's of our brothers and sisters. For God's sake, think of the children. Think of your children, and now think of them carrying buckets of water down a dirt or pebble road for four hours a day, and then going to sleep under a tin roof, hungry and cold. Now, imagine even that is all gone. There is no water, no buckets, the tin is crushed under what little things they had. Whole generations of families have just been wiped out. What if that were you, and your family and your friends, just gone. These people have nothing. Please take action, please find an organization to donate to. I support the American Red Cross, Wyclef's Foundation, www.yele.org, and any other organization that you hear named that is already on the ground in Haiti.
